Richie Sambora fans mount write-in campaign for "Billboard"s 'Sexiest Man'

Fans of Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora are a no-nonsense bunch.  They are fiercely loyal and protective of Jon Bon Jovi’s softer foil, who is undoubtedly the softer touch of the two despite his Mediterranean looks, root beer puppy eyes, and mischievous nature.
Mr. Bluesman has been there all these years for them, and now worldwide Richie fans are there for him, launching a write-in campaign for Billboard’s Sexiest Man and Woman in music voting.
This development fresh on the heels of Jon Bon Jovi being the only tried and true rock star to be a nominee on the list that includes Justin Bieber, Usher, and others.
It’s no surprise when it comes to bands in the music industry that the front-person always seems to get the accolades for good looks. For the Beatles it was Paul McCartney over John Lennon, the Rolling Stones Mick Jagger (before his face caved in) over perpetually embalmed Keith Richards, and U2’s magnetic Bono over The Edge.

Hell, Led Zeppelin even had Roger Plant vanquishing Jimmy Page in the looks department, and Roger Daltry was the unabashed sex object for The Who since time immemorial. So what’s different with all the fuss about voting for Richie Sambora for a sexiest award?
For starters, many die-hard Richie fans are sick and tired of Jon Bon Jovi getting all the accolades.
Whether it’s a an award for philanthropy or an AARP or People magazine ‘Sexiest’ award, Sambora fans are as smitten with the lanky guitar virtuoso as the media nominating committees are with Bon Jovi. In that regard, they view it as a consummate insult because in addition to his guitar playing, they are drawn to his looks.
It’s the classic cliché: one rocker of Light (Jon), and one of Darkness (Richie). He of the smoldering looks that on the surface imbue him with an accessible vulnerability that knocks the ladies dead where they stand; yet an intensity that burns so deeply that one gets the sense that ying and yang are in constant conflict over who gets to project the man and his music on his professional persona.
That’s why within minutes of social media sites Facebook and Twitter picking up news of Jon’s nomination, the effort to write-in Richie took off full swing:
@teripp tweeted: “…without making JBJ fans angry, there is write-in. I know there is a Richie campaign to get him on the chart as a write-in”.
Talk about “I’ll be there for you”!
@sashawasha added: “Campaigning to get @TheRealSambora added to the Sexiest Rock God thing! But love JBJ too!
Indeed, ask any female Sambora fan how they feel about Richie (outside of the 50 Shades of Fan Fiction), and they will tell you they just want to wrap their arms around him and protect him. Which is why right now, Richie Sambora fans all over the globe want you to go to the Billboard site and vote, before the results are revealed June 11.
