Bamboozle returns to Asbury Park Asbury Park again to play host to music festival that began in 2003

ASBURY PARK — The Bamboozle Festival, which has grown into a music institution since its inception in 2003, will return to its birth city here in May with rocker Jon Bon Jovi headlining the three-day event.
John D’Esposito, Live Nation talent buyer and founder of the Bamboozle, said Monday that it was time to return here, and the City Council last Friday agreed to sign an agreement for the 10th annual festival to be held on the city’s waterfront May 18, 19 and 20.
The event began in Asbury Park, but by 2006 moved to the Meadowlands Sports Complex in East Rutherford.
So far, Bon Jovi, one of the top-touring acts in the music business, and the festival’s other headliners, California pop-punkers Blink-182 and the Foo Fighters, a top-selling rock band formed in 1994 by former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl, have been announced as performing.
Details about some 100 additional musical performers, who could draw an estimated 40,000 people a day over three days, will be forthcoming, D’Esposito said.
The Bamboozle has grown since starting out as a jam band weekend in 2003 at The Stone Pony in Asbury Park. There have been a stadium-size California Bamboozle and a traveling edition called the Bamboozle Roadshow.
All along, D’Esposito has had the foresight to merge rock acts like Fall Out Boy with hip-hop stars like Snoop Dogg, along with comedy acts, games and established artists, like Boyz II Men, for an eclectic event that has stayed relevant to today’s fans.
“He's definitely molded an event with cutting-edge new acts that fits its changing tastes within the music industry, and he takes the old and makes it new again,” said Scott Stamper, the owner of The Saint nightclub on Main Street here. “It's a fresh approach, and he’s stuck to his guns. He’s changed the thinking of how to produce a music festival.”
D’Esposito said the designated area for the festival — Bradley Park, Convention Hall Complex, parts of Ocean Avenue, the boardwalk and oceanfront land from Convention Hall north to Deal Lake —will “serve as a remarkable site.”
He said that when he switched the site from the first years at The Stone Pony and then one year at Convention Hall to the Meadowlands in 2006, it was because the festival had outgrown the capacity of what was available in Asbury Park at that time.
Yet during the past three years, D’Espositio said, he has learned that “a festival site makes a festival,” and at the Meadowlands, the Bamboozle was in a parking lot.
“Now I believe the political and development climate in Asbury is stable and supportive to help us bring the event back to where it began and look to expand it as an annual tradition in a historical and musical town,” D’Esposito said.
“We’re incredibly excited and think this is a testimony to how far the city has come and how well the waterfront developers and the city are going to be able to work together,” said Anselm Fusco, a vice president with Madison Marquette, which owns many of the beachfront buildings and played a role in the negotiations between the city and Bamboozle.
Asbury Park will get a guarantee of $200,000 for the use of the city beach and portion of the waterfront that belongs to the city, City Manager Terence Reidy said.
The city also will share in the ticket sales, getting a fee when sales go over certain thresholds and bonuses if they reach certain numbers. The city will get the $200,000 and an estimated $160,000 for costs of police, fire, emergency medical technicians and public works 10 days before the festival.
“The city is on a path for financial independence and part of it is owning what we offer the world,” Reidy said.
The festival promoter at this time is offering only three-day ticket packages, which go on sale 10 a.m. Saturday for $190 plus applicable fees. For more ticket information, visit www.thebamboozle.com.

Bon Jovi axman Richie Sambora highlighted a weekend of motorcycle-riding and rock’n'roll in Broward County.

Without ex-galpal/new galpal Denise Richards in sight, Sambora mingled with some of the 750-plus at the charity Bikers Bash at Hard Rock Live Friday night at the Seminole Hard Rock Resort in Hollywood. He then hopped on stage for an acoustic guitar concert.

Sambora was accompanied by legendary guitarist/songwriter Richie Supa while, on the floor of the concert venue, folks raised $200,000 for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County.

On Sunday, more than 30,000 motorcyclists bearing Christmas gifts rode through the county to Sunrise‘s Markham Park in the Toys in the Sun Run. There were enough gifts to fill up several truck-loads. The toys will be distributed to the children of Broward families who couldn’t otherwise afford it.

New Year’s Eve Movie Review

Posted on December 11, 2011 by Valentina

With an all-star cast including Robert De Niro, Ashton Kutcher, Michelle Pfeiffer, Halle Berry, Jon Bon Jovi, Sofia Vergara, Katherine Heigl and more, it was no surprise to me that “New Year’s Eve” was a great movie. Then again, I’m a sucker for a good chick flick, so there’s that too.

If you’re a fan of movies with intertwining story lines, such as “Parenthood” (1989), ”Love, Actually” (2003), “He’s Just Not That Into You” (2009), or “Valentine’s Day” (2010), then you will probably enjoy “New Year’s Eve” as well. I found that the movie itself wasn’t as interwoven as some of the others I mentioned, where it seemed like the characters and their respective plot lines came in a full circle, but it was satisfying nevertheless.

It tells the story of several different characters, centered around New Year’s Eve 2011 in New York City. The highlight of the movie, for me, was Zac Efron and Michelle Pfeiffer, as the enthusiastic young 20-something (who wants to get the tickets for the hottest party in town) and the 40- or 50-something woman who has an epiphany (or breaks down, depending on how you look at it) and makes a deal to give him the tickets he is looking for in exchange for helping her cross off items on her bucket list.

The rest of the stories are all very standard chick-flick-kind-of-plots, which means they are nothing that you would be surprised by, but all of them trying to make you cry, especially Halle Berry’s overseas husband. The only plot line that I think could easily make viewers misty was Robert De Niro’s sad tale of a dying man who just wants to make it to midnight.

“New Year’s Eve” is a sweet movie and definitely not a waste of money — just don’t go expecting an Oscar-worthy performance and say I didn’t warn you!

Jon Bon Jovi Reveals His True Advil(R) Story
National Advertising Campaign from Pfizer Consumer Healthcare Shares Stories of Pain and Relief

MADISON, N.J., Dec 08, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Jon Bon Jovi's schedule is packed - on any given day he's performing sold-out stadium shows, staying fit with daily runs, spending time with his family and giving back through the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation. One thing that's not on his schedule is pain. The artist gives a glimpse into his life in a new advertisement for Advil(R). The TV ad was shot in Red Bank, New Jersey, at the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Kitchen, a community kitchen that recently opened as an initiative of the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation.

Last year, Jon injured his calf muscle on stage while entertaining a hometown crowd in New Jersey. He later revealed in an interview that he relies on Advil(R) to get through the inevitable aches and pains that come with touring, setting the stage for his true Advil(R) story. In the advertisement, which breaks December 9, Jon joins other real Advil(R) users who have told their stories of pain and relief in Advil's(R) current testimonial-style campaign. The ads show that no matter who you are or what you do, pain disrupts busy lives. All of the stories can be viewed at TakeAdvil(R).com.

"Pain does not have much of a place in my life. I checked the schedule and it's not on it. You never know when Advil(R) is needed," said Jon Bon Jovi.

Jon Bon Jovi's Advil(R) testimonial highlights the man behind the music. Vignettes in the :30 second commercial and additional digital content include Jon backstage and on the road, as well as sitting down at the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Kitchen, which offers nutritious meals to those in need.

The Jon Bon Jovi Soul Kitchen in Red Bank, NJ, a program of the Soul Foundation, is dedicated to strengthening the community by serving nutritious meals to all, regardless of their income. Diners at the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Kitchen order from a menu with no prices listed. Those who cannot afford to pay can volunteer. Those who can pay the suggested donation are encouraged to give a little more. The kitchen, built in an old auto-body shop, opened in October. Both the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Kitchen and the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation work towards the goal of breaking the cycle of poverty and homelessness. Pfizer Consumer Healthcare, makers of Advil(R), supports the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation's work, and through this sponsorship has donated to its initiatives.

"Our Advil(R) Stories campaign emphasizes that everyone experiences physical pain for some reason in their lives, no matter who they are. And when pain tries to disrupt lives, millions of people trust Advil(R), not just for relief, but to help them continue to do what they love," said Srini Sripada, Senior Director, Pain Management, Pfizer Consumer Healthcare. "We know that Advil(R) consumers are our greatest ambassadors and that pain is something we all share. We are excited to showcase the true stories from pain sufferers who are finding relief with Advil(R), and we are thrilled that Jon is sharing his story with America. We applaud him for the work his foundation is doing every day."

The Advil(R) Stories campaign launched last year, and in October of this year Regis and Joy Philbin debuted their true Advil(R) story. To see all of the Advil(R) stories, visit TakeAdvil.com.

Bon Jovi to play Olympiski Arena Moscow April 14, 2012

When Soviet audiences failed to react to Bon Jovi’s music, Jon saved a flailing festival with an improvised striptease by borrowing a soldier’s uniform. Now fans are Livin’ on a Prayer as the band prepares to return with its first solo gig in Moscow.

The American rockers have been on stage for almost three decades, but have still never performed a full solo concert in Russia.

Back in 1989, Bon Jovi Gave Love a Bad Name with a striptease at Moscow’s Peace Festival. After seeing the stony faces in the audience, Jon decided to liven up the proceedings by borrowing a soldier’s uniform (he apparently gave his jeans in return). His saucy performance has meant fans have Kept the Faith since, awaiting the band’s return.

The rockers will hit the capital’s Olympiisky Arena on April 14 next year. The band will play their best hits alongside new material, due to be released on their new album in 2013.

Fashion

It's a slow day for Bon Jovi news when all I could find new was a Vogue piece on Jon Bon Jovi clothing style. Did not like the article or their suggestions so not going to post it. Instead you get to read my rambles.

I read a blog that was asking What does Bon Jovi (music) mean to you? A lot of the responses were on how their music talked to them or helped them through some tough time or was their prom song (Never Say Goodbye) Or their Wedding song (All About Loving You) or so on.

For me it is (was) a Richie Sambora piece The Answer. Helped me through a really rough bump in the road When I was diagnosed with MS and then again some 2 years later when another bump in the road hit me hard (mother dying) and finally over an breakup (Why do we cry over that? He moved to Madrid did not die....) but anyway I am going off track. I played that song over and over again crying and crying could not hear the song with out crying. It helped. Helped put things into perspective helped get through the pain (a few pains) (No not PITAS) just pain..... Yiesh!!!!

Helped remind me that their are guides to help us pass. (I Forget now and again I have a couple of Guardian Angels who help me.) Helped me know that things are going to be ok over the break up or the MS or what ever.... So Yes I fully agree that Bon Jovi/ Richie Sambora Music does mean something to each of their fans. I dont remember the quote exactly but I think you will recall it.... Their music helps weave the fabric of our lives. Now I was paraphrasing their quote but I know that the idea will come across and the true quote will be remembered.

Well by now I am sure you are hoping for a good news day tomorrow from the boys from Jersey so you do not have to read this kind of thing again.... hahaha
Okay...

Vancouver Richie's point of veiw

“That’s [Vancouver] where Bruce Fairbairn lived and that’s where he wanted to be. He also wanted to get us out of our element in New Jersey. I don’t think it was such a good idea because we were very out of control. The working environment was always in control. It was the environment that came after the work that was usually out of control. Luckily, we were sturdy lads!… The strip club in Vancouver were something that we had never seen before, being from New Jersey. The first day we walked into this strip club, this woman descended from the ceiling sown a pole and proceeded to take all her clothes off. When she got in a shower and soaped herself up, we just about lost our tongues. We just sat there and said, ‘We will be here every day.’ That energized us through the whole project. Our testosterone was at a very high level back then… We all lived in the same rented condo together. It was destroyed by the end of the recording. The police evicted Jon and me. We had to finish the last few days living at the Sheraton hotel, because we had pissed the neighbors off with the noise. It was five guys together and it got pretty wild. It was a brand new condo, right on the river overlooking the World’s Fair. It was lovely until we moved in there. Then it was ‘There goes the neighborhood”. You know, sometimes you forget your key and have to climb over the wall…”

Chapter One

Just throwing this out to see if there is any interest. I may be way too bland but it does get better as the chapters go along. Let me know what you think.... Oh and you may see this first chapter again when I get going on this again just a taste for reactions

Richie was sitting on his deck at the table that sat 10 comfortably with his bare feet propped up on one of the chairs at their home in Southern Connecticut which looked out onto Long Island sound in the quiet morning hours with his cup of coffee. All you could see and hear was the occasional boat leaving the marina near his home to head out to open ocean for the day and the seagulls as they dove into the water off the point for food.  Dressed in Jeans and a T-shirt with hair still messy from bed he contemplated on his life for the past 18 years. Who would have thought that he Richie Sambora would have settled down and had a fantastic, gorgeous wife 3 amazing kids and feeling that he was home at last. Contentment yea that’s what it is total and complete contentment. Even with the craziness of having 3 kids two dogs and the two of us here it is still content because it is real and it is my life.
The rock star life style of the 80’s is long gone. I am complete here with my wife and children. I was resigning myself to the fact that Ava was going to be my only child and I so wanted more. Teri gave me that gift. That life of the 80’s is one I do not want to go back to. I made mistakes sure and a lot of dumb decisions on who is going to end up in my bed that night I cannot justify it nor do I want to. That was my past. This is my future. Our future Teri and I have discussed both of our past histories, granted mine is way more colorful but it was discussed and then completely put in the past. Where it belongs as Teri said.
Home. With a big sigh and a smile he took another sip of coffee. Their home is an amazing place. His wife Teri was totally open to his ideas once they found what they were looking for. She lovingly calls home “The Compound” we all do. And honestly it fits. There is the main house where he was sitting with its 9 bedrooms, 11 bathrooms and a total of 17 rooms. Then there is the guest house has 6 bedrooms that Teri refers to as the dorm when the boys are in residence which is usually when we are writing new material and when we play Mohegan Sun arena or venues in MA and or PA or hell let’s face it whenever they damn well want. The boys are in and out of here a lot. It is nice to have them around even when we are not doing Jovi stuff. They are our family also. It’s nicer to be home than in another hotel room. Which Teri fully agrees with and they boys are always welcome with open arms.  Teri has been threatening to have a Jovi flag made up with our latest tour logo and fly it over the Compound whenever the boys were in residence to “warn” the neighbors that they are here again. Kind of like what the queen of England does and he chuckles loving her humor.
And the pool house, Oh the pool house that was so much fun driving  Teri crazy when Jon would come up and they would test out new material and sounds in the master bathroom here in the main house….. Well the acoustics ARE the best. And the bathroom is big enough for them to leave their equipment set up all day as we work…..It got to the point where Teri would start complaining and stubbing her toes on the amps which were placed just so for the best sound. After a few months of working in the bathroom I had the idea that we should convert the pool house to a state of the art studio and leave the 4 bedrooms alone upstairs. Heck it was big enough and there was a small area with a fridge and enough room for a coffee pot on the counter what more was there? The boys always took meals with Teri and I and with the kids (or I should say with whichever children happened to be home for a meal and what friends they had with them) except for family dinner night of course the boys yes the friends no and Teri was firm on that, It was our time together as a family. The issue was that Teri wanted that space to be just that. A pool house. Thus the name she would always say then bitch and moan about the amps and guitars in the bathroom. She would lament that there are 7 thousand rooms here and he has to pick their Bathroom. Until one day……
“Ok guys this is what we are going to have to do” Richie said with a look of conspiracy in his eyes. Here is how it is going to roll. We are going to be going over some new material around the time that Teri will want a shower after her workout with CJ she is always in a foul mood cause she says he works her to death.  She growls at him and calls him and calls him names but they keep at it. CJ is her trainer and a longtime friend so the growls are in good fun but serious at the same time. We have a gym in the house so he comes here three to four times a week for Teri CJ trains me also which takes a few extra days and I train after Teri on the other days she and I are here. We both train here and at the gyms in town as a change of pace. For me it’s more body building He has helped her lose the weight she wanted to as he has a degree in nutrition and fitness and also to tone her body. She looks amazing. So in about half an hour we start working, she is going to come home and find all four of us here. Now be prepared cause that Pollack temper is going to soar and we are going to have to be ready for anything. “I for one cannot wait to see that temper in action. I hear it’s almost legendary” said Tico from his place sitting on the Jacuzzi tub ledge that fit both Richie and Teri more than comfortable…. Richie smiles at the thought and makes a mental note that they had not had a bubble bath in a few months…..
Meanwile…
Teri is in the hallway with her PA and best friend Gloria(or one of her girls which she fondly refers to them as)  They are whispering and giggling. “I know Rich has something up his sleeve and I think it’s about the studio. I personally am all for it but have loved stringing him along for a little bit.” As the girls walked down the hallway they heard voices coming from the bedroom. Looking at each other and tip toed toward the open bedroom door. Disappointed that no one was in the massive master suite they then realized it was coming from the master bathroom. Silently Teri motioned for Glor to go into the room that is referred to as Richie and her closet. This room is a dream comes true for Teri. She and Richie designed it themselves it was bigger than an average bedroom and had rows and rows of clothes his and hers racks of shoes and drawers and an island in the middle for Jewelry, Richie’s hats and more drawer space. I even have to admit that I was not in the least upset when Teri and Gloria arranged my clothes by color and then labeled the area for red and green which of course I cannot see. It HAS made my life easier here at home where there is no one doing my wardrobe like on tour. Admittedly, Teri will help any time I ask and I do if the colors match. But, at home I try to do this for myself. I will say it’s because want to do it myself. Which I do. The idea was ingenious. Rich musses to himself while waiting for Teri to enter the bathroom. There are no bureaus or dressers in the bedroom. We put some couch tables and a sitting area complete with comfortable chairs a couch and a Television over the fire place which opened the whole suite even more.
As the girls whispered what they were going to do Teri crosses to the bathroom door and she calls over her shoulder. “Glor I am just going to hop in the shower I wish Elsa left those towels in the closet so I can just jump right in oh well its only us I am going to throw my clothes in the hamper and take that shower…then we can try on the stuff we got this morning. I am thinking the new White Capri Jeans will go perfect with that black top with the buckles across the shoulders and I can wear it tonight when we go on our dinner date with our men” and she opens the door a bit Oh and grab those black wedges the ones with the silver on them with some silver jewelry it would look perfect….” And opens the door some more.
Meanwhile they guys are all panicked they have no idea where to go where to hide. The plan was great but no one thought Teri was going to come into the bathroom NAKED…. Jon is in the shower as the glass wall and tile make a great box for singing without being overpowered by the drums and band that loudly. But right now there is nowhere to hide in there. The look on his face is priceless. He loves Teri as a sister and seeing her naked is not something he wants or needs. Richie is in a corner where he has room to move around when the music gets into his soul. T is just sitting back on the tile around their massive Jacuzzi tub laughing at the issue as there is absolutely nothing they can do.  David has his keyboard between the two sinks on the vanity and is desperately looking for a place to hide.
“You know Glor I think that eyeliner you wanted to try is in the bathroom come on in and you can try it out while I shower. As the girls slowly open the door they look at the scene and dissolve in laughter. Teri is fully dressed and sliding down the door jamb laughing so hard she cannot stand up. Gloria is laughing so hard she has to hold her sides with tears falling from her eyes. She almost cannot breath due to the laughter. The face on the boys is priceless. Thank goodness Glor remembered to take the camera off Richie’s bedside table and start shooting pictures of all the shocked expressions.
As Teri catches her breath she says….” Ok enough I give up you win change the pool house into your Connecticut studio the sooner the better. Double soundproof please. “We do have neighbors to be nice too” Richie walks toward the door and Teri and helps his sneaky wife up and wraps his arms around her….. Teri winks at Gloria as she turns to hug and thoroughly kiss her husband but not before breathing in his scent on his neck which is the best smell on the planet to her. And that is how the studio came to be… Memories.
